Wireless data collection just got even simpler.

MicroRidge has introduced its new Shape Transmitter series, a new approach to wireless gage data collection designed specifically for Mitutoyo digital micrometers. Unlike traditional wireless setups that require both a transmitter and a separate gage connector or cable, the Shape Transmitter mounts directly to the micrometer's SPC output port.

The result is a compact, truly cable-free solution designed to make measurement data collection easier, cleaner, and more reliable on the shop floor.

At GreatGages.com, we're excited to introduce the first two models in the new MicroRidge Shape lineup: the MC-S-MIC01 and MC-S-MIC02.

One Transmitter. No Gage Cable.

Traditional MicroRidge wireless systems use a transmitter paired with a connector specific to the measuring instrument. It's a proven and highly versatile system, but it also means keeping track of two components.

The new Shape Transmitter combines that connection into a single gage-mounted device.

There is no short data cable between the micrometer and transmitter and no separate gage connector to purchase or stock. The transmitter plugs directly into the compatible Mitutoyo SPC port, creating a streamlined wireless measurement system with fewer components.

That can mean:

  • Fewer components to purchase and inventory

  • No transmitter cable to snag, damage, or replace

  • A cleaner setup at the inspection station

  • Faster deployment of wireless data collection

  • One part number to manage instead of separate transmitter and connector components

For facilities using large numbers of Mitutoyo micrometers, that simplicity can make a significant difference.

Designed Around the Micrometer — and the Operator

MicroRidge didn't simply shrink an existing transmitter and attach it to a micrometer. The Shape series was designed around how an operator actually holds and uses the gage.

Its distinctive L-shaped housing wraps around the micrometer frame, keeping the transmitter away from the critical measuring area. It does not interfere with the anvil, spindle, thimble, ratchet, spindle lock, display, or controls.

The housing can even provide an additional gripping surface, which can be particularly useful when working around coolant or oil.

Two read buttons are positioned on different surfaces of the transmitter. This allows operators to trigger a measurement from multiple orientations, whether the micrometer is handheld, mounted in a stand, or incorporated into a fixture.

The dual-button design also provides redundancy. If one high-cycle button eventually becomes unresponsive, the second button can keep the gage operational instead of immediately taking it out of service.

Built for Real Shop-Floor Conditions

The Shape Transmitter uses a textured Nylon 12 housing designed to provide durability, chemical resistance, impact resistance, and improved grip.

MicroRidge has also designed the housing seams and silicone buttons to resist dust and liquid ingress. The mounting surface interfaces with the micrometer's existing SPC gasket, with the goal of maintaining the environmental protection offered by compatible coolant-proof micrometers.

MicroRidge has not yet published a formal IP rating for the Shape module, so an official ingress-protection rating should not be assumed until testing is complete.

Another thoughtful detail is the placement of the transmitter's status indicators. Two bi-color light pipes sit within the inside corner of the L-shaped housing, allowing the housing itself to shade the indicators. This makes transmitter status easier to see under the bright overhead lighting commonly found in inspection areas and manufacturing environments.

Up to 800,000+ Readings on a Standard Battery

Despite the new housing and direct-mount design, the Shape Transmitter uses the same core technology as MicroRidge's Mini Mobile Module EVO.

According to MicroRidge, users can expect 800,000+ readings from a standard CR2032 battery, with typical service life ranging from approximately three to five years.

There is no proprietary battery required, helping keep long-term maintenance straightforward.

TriggerSync: Take Measurements from Your SPC Software

Both Shape Transmitter models support TriggerSync through the MobileCollect EVO API.

TriggerSync allows compatible SPC software to request a measurement directly instead of requiring the operator to physically press the transmitter's read button.

It can also support remote TIR cycles that return:

  • Measurement count

  • Minimum

  • Maximum

  • Range

For automated inspection stations, fixtures, and more advanced SPC workflows, this opens the door to more efficient data collection without requiring additional operator interaction.

TriggerSync requires an EVO Base Receiver running firmware version 6.30 or newer and implementation through compatible SPC software.

MC-S-MIC02 Adds GageSync

The MC-S-MIC02 introduces another particularly useful capability: GageSync.

Because compatible MDE QuantuMike models communicate using Mitutoyo's Digimatic S1 interface, GageSync enables two-way communication between the wireless system and the measuring instrument.

Instead of identifying a measurement only by the wireless transmitter or channel being used, the system can query information from the actual gage.

This includes the gage's serial number and calibration dates, which can then be included with measurement data.

For manufacturers managing large numbers of measuring instruments, this can help strengthen traceability and calibration control. Compatible software could, for example, identify an out-of-calibration gage when the measurement is collected rather than discovering the issue later during a quality or records review.

This capability can be especially valuable in quality systems operating under standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and AS9100.

MC-S-MIC01 vs. MC-S-MIC02: Which Shape Transmitter Do You Need?

MicroRidge is launching the Shape family with two models designed for different Mitutoyo micrometer connections.

The MC-S-MIC01 is designed for Mitutoyo micrometers using the 5-pin Digimatic SPC port.

MicroRidge lists compatibility across 533 Mitutoyo model codes spanning 18 series, making this the broader of the two initial Shape configurations.

If your micrometer currently uses the Mitutoyo 05CZA662 SPC cable, the MC-S-MIC01 is the corresponding Shape Transmitter.

MicroRidge MC-S-MIC02

The MC-S-MIC02 is designed specifically for newer Mitutoyo MDE QuantuMike models equipped with the 8-pin SF port.

If your micrometer uses the Mitutoyo 06AGL111 cable, this is the corresponding Shape model.

The MC-S-MIC02 also supports GageSync, providing the additional gage identification and calibration-data capabilities available through the Digimatic S1 interface.

One important distinction involves the QuantuMike product family. Older QuantuMike models purchased before 2024 may use the earlier 5-pin connection and therefore require the MC-S-MIC01. Newer MDE QuantuMike models using the 8-pin SF connection require the MC-S-MIC02.

Checking the existing SPC cable or exact Mitutoyo model number is the best way to verify compatibility before ordering.

A Simpler Way to Bring Mitutoyo Micrometers Into Your Wireless SPC System

The Shape Transmitter isn't intended to replace MicroRidge's complete MobileCollect ecosystem. Traditional Mini Mobile Module EVO transmitters remain an important option because they support thousands of measuring devices across dozens of connector configurations.

Instead, Shape provides a purpose-built alternative for one of the most common precision measuring instruments on the shop floor: the digital micrometer.

By eliminating the separate gage cable and integrating the wireless transmitter directly with compatible Mitutoyo micrometers, MicroRidge has created a solution that is simpler to deploy, easier to manage, and designed specifically around the way these instruments are actually used.

For companies already using MobileCollect, it also provides a straightforward way to expand wireless data collection while maintaining compatibility with the existing MicroRidge ecosystem.
